Hank Gaines, along with his wife Dianne and daughter Ginger, own and operate Grace Hill Farm near Enterprise, Al. Hank grew up and worked on the family farm in Autaugaville, in partnership with his brother, in a diversified operation that consisted of row crops as well as livestock. After both of Hank’s daughters and two nephews returned to the farm upon graduating from college, Hank and Dianne began to think about going out on their own and starting a new farm. Hank felt that God was calling him, like Abraham, to “Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee.” So in January of 2010 they began to look for a new farm. The journey lasted three years and took them all over Alabama, and into Georgia and Tennessee. Their constant prayer was that the Lord would close the door in any direction He didn’t want them to go. During the first two years of searching, they made offers on three different farms. All three sold within days, even hours of them making an offer. They believed God was closing those doors, and continued to trust that He would lead them to the right place.
In 2013 they bought a cattle farm in the Goodman Community near Enterprise. Over the next nine months, they built a house, completed the division of the operation in Autaugaville, and moved the entire cattle enterprise to south Alabama. They watched with amazement as the Lord provided for every step of their journey. Romans 4:16 says “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace.” Realizing that only by the grace of God could they have been given the faith to make this journey, they called their new farm Grace Hill, and give all the glory and honor to Him.
Grace Hill is a commercial Sim-Angus cow-calf operation. Fall born calves are weaned the first week of July. After a sixty day pre-conditioning period, calves are sold through the Producers Feeder Calf Board Sale. Bred heifers are sold through private treaty off the farm each spring. The farm’s hay operation includes custom baling and hay sales. Freezer beef is also seasonally available.
Hank is the newest member of the Cattle for Christ Board of Directors and also serves on the Coffee County Farmers Federation and of Fairview Baptist Church. He previously served on the Autauga County Cattlemen's Board of Directors, the Autauga County School Board and the Autauga County Farmers Federation.
